  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Timer
  • Freezer
  • 3 containers
  • Measuring spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • toothpick
  • Spoon
  • Water

Procedures

  • Measure a tablespoon of salt
  • Measure a tablespoon of sugar
  • Get measuring cup
  • Get three cups of water
  • Pour 1 cup of water into each of the three containers
  • Put a tablespoon of salt in the first container, take a spoon and stir until salt dissolves
  • Put a table spoon of sugar in the container, take a spoon and stir until sugar dissolves
  • Put only water in a container (control)
  • Put the three container in he freezer
  • Every 30 minutes use a toothpick to dip in the water to see if it is frozen
*For the purpose of the experiment the mixture will be frozen when the toothpick is unable to go through the water.

  • It has started to form on the upper layer of the container in the control group.
  • The first group (salt) and the second group (sugar) have gotten cold but are still not showing any sign of ice.

  • The control group is still a little frozen at the top.
  • The container with the salt is still just cold.
  • The container with the sugar has little pieces of ice in it.
2:30:14in the experiment:
  • The control group has gotten deeper and a little harder.
  • The group with the salt has gotten pieces of ice in it.
  • The group with the sugar has mostly turned into ice.
3:02:41 in the experiment:
  • The control group is frozen
  • The container with the salt is very sloshy.
  • The container with the sugar is almost covered with ice.
3:33:25 in the experiment:
  • In the control group is completely frozen
  • The container with the sugar in it is close to its freezing point but it’s not there yet.
  • The container with the salt in it is getting icy.
4:08:29 in the experiment:
  • The control group is completely frozen
  • The salt water has made no progress
  • The sugar water is nearly frozen
4:39:09 in the experiment:
  • The control group completely frozen
  • The sugar water comlpetely frozen
  • The salt water is near be freozen
5:11:34 in the experiment:
  • All the containers are frozen
